WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Idaho Steelheads (2-3-1) opened the game on the right foot but couldn’t come away with the win, falling 3-2 to the Utah Grizzlies (4-0-1) on Friday night at Maverik Center.
After five games of trailing after the opening goal, the Steelheads got on the scoreboard first. At 6:54, Steelheads forward Steve McParland snapped a one-time touch in front of the net coming from a Jeff King pass behind the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Grizzlies answered on the power play at 13:32 thanks to forward Cole Ully to tie the game, 1-1.
The Grizzlies gained their first lead of the night at 7:48 on a one-time shot by forward Caleb Herbert, but Steelheads forward Reid Petryk answered back eight seconds later at 7:56 with a shot from the right circle, tying the game at 2-2. Ully scored his second goal of the night at 14:54 to edge the Grizzlies ahead, 3-2.
The Steelheads pressed throughout the third period to find the game-tying goal, but they were held off as the Grizzlies took the 3-2 win. Utah netminder Kevin Carr (2-0-0) stopped 22 of 24 shots in the win, while Steelheads goaltender Philippe Desrosiers (1-2-1) saved 24 of 27 shots in the loss.
The Steelheads finish their four-game stretch against the Grizzlies on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 p.m. from Maverik Center. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 1350-AM KTIK and ECHL TV.
The Steelheads return to CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:10 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.
