Steelheads Battle Back to Take 5-4 Shootout Win Over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The Idaho Steelheads (1-1-1) erased a pair of two-goal deficits to come back and take a 5-4 shootout win over the Tulsa Oilers (1-0-1) on Sunday evening at BOK Center.

The Oilers and Steelheads scored all three goals in the first period during a two minute span beginning at 11:08 on a breakaway goal from Oilers forward Peter Sivak to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Oilers defenseman Kyle Rhodes doubled the lead, 2-0, at 12:26 on a rebound off the back wall that came to the off-side post. The Steelheads found an answer just 18 seconds later at 12:44 when forward Steve McParland was set up for a shot in the slot by forward Brad McClure, cutting the lead in half at 2-1.

In the first minute of the second period at 0:37, Steelheads forward Justin Parizek led a 2-on-1 counter attack and wristed a shot from the right circle to tie the game, 2-2. The Oilers scored two more goals in a short period starting at 8:20 from Sivak followed by a tally from forward Ryan Tesink at 10:50 on the power play, doubling the lead to 4-2. The Steelheads answered once more at 11:43 for the first professional goal by forward Spencer Naas, cutting the lead to one again, 4-3.

Steelheads forward A.J. White netted the first power play goal of the season at 14:42 of the third period which erased a seven-chance drought and sent the game to overtime, 4-4. In the fourth round of the shootout, Steelheads defenseman Brady Norrish broke through as the lone goal scorer, giving the Steelheads the 5-4 win.

Steelheads goaltender Philippe Desrosiers (1-0-1) stopped 24 of 28 shots in the win, while Oilers netminder Evan Fitzpatrick (0-0-1) halted 40 of 44 shots in the shootout loss. The Steelheads open the 2018-19 home schedule at CenturyLink Arena on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:10 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies.
