Steelheads Add Four From Texas Stars Camp

Boise, Idaho – The Texas Stars (AHL) have loaned defenseman Nolan Gluchowski, forward Brad McClure, forward Spencer Naas and Dallas prospect Ondrej Vala to the Idaho Steelheads, the team announced today.­

Gluchowski, 24, played 36 games with St. Lawrence University in 2017-18, recording two goals and 18 assists for 20 points, leading the team in assists while earning a career-high in the same category and serving as an alternate captain. The Wixom, Mich., native compiled 16 goals and 55 assists for 71 points through 133 career collegiate games.

McClure, 25, played 40 games with Minnesota State University Mankato during the 2017-18 season, totaling 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points and served as captain for his senior season. The Stratford, Ont., native finished his collegiate career with 45 goals and 46 assists for 91 points in 159 games played, ranking fourth all-time in games played and top-20 in career scoring in the NCAA Division I era.

Naas, 23, finished the 2017-18 season with the Cleveland Monsters (AHL), tallying four goals and three assists for seven points through 12 games following his senior season at the University of Connecticut. The St. Louis Park, Minn., product was named alternate captain for his junior and senior seasons and posted 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points through 36 games in his final year, establishing a career-high in scoring and sharing the team lead in goals en route to a Hockey East All-Star Honorable Mention. Naas earned 49 goals and 28 assists for 77 points through 143 career collegiate games.

Vala, 20, split the 2017-18 season between the Kamloops Blazers and the Everett Silvertips (WHL), posting seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points with a +17 rating through 59 games. The Pardubice, Czech Republic product participated with his international program during the 2018 World Junior Championships and 20 total international competitions. In 191 career WHL games, the defenseman owns 21 goals and 53 assists for 74 points with 189 penalty minutes. Vala notched one assist in three appearances with the Texas Stars in 2016-17 and is signed to a NHL contract with Dallas.

Additionally, the Texas Stars have recalled defenseman Chris Martenet to camp. Defenseman Kale Kassy has been loaned to the Manitoba Moose, marking the first time this season a ECHL contract has been recalled by an AHL club. The Steelheads finished in the top-three among ECHL teams for contract recalls.

The transactions increase the Steelheads’ training camp roster to 27 players. The Steelheads host the Utah Grizzlies in a preseason meeting on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:10 p.m. from CenturyLink Arena.

The Steelheads open the 2018-19 home schedule at CenturyLink Arena on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:10 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies.
