BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads have acquired defenseman Jeff King, cash, and future considerations from the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange to the ECHL rights to Justin Kea, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Wednesday.
King, 22, appeared in both games for the Komets to open the 2018-19 season, recording a +2 rating on opening weekend. The St. Clair, Mich., product played 57 games between the Brampton Beast and Orlando Solar Bears during the 2017-18 season, tallying five goals and eight assists for 13 points while also playing two games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL). The 5-foot-10, 171-pound defenseman made his professional debut on Mar. 31, 2017 with Orlando and was signed to an AHL contract with Toronto last season.
The rights to Kea, 24, were acquired by the Steelheads on August 8 from the Florida Everblades.
The Steelheads open the 2018-19 home schedule at CenturyLink Arena this Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:10 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies.
