Boise, ID (8/30/18) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Thursday that the Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with rookie defenseman Sean Campbell on an ECHL contract for the 2018-19 season.
Campbell, 25, joins the Steelheads following a four-year career at NCAA Division III St. Norbert’s College. Campbell also appeared in two ECHL games last spring for the Fort Wayne Komets following his senior season, in which he won a National Championship with the Green Knights.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join such a great organization,” said Campbell. “I have heard amazing things about the coaching staff, ownership, and fans. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help the team win in any way I can.”
The Holt, Michigan native tallied two goals and 17 points in 32 games last season, along with 26 penalty minutes. Over his four-year college career, Campbell totaled 15 goals, 49 points, and 82 penalty minutes in 113 games, earning NCHA All-Conference Team honors in 2017 and 2018.
“Sean is a solid defenseman that can contribute in all areas,” said Graham. “He has had success on the power play and on the penalty kill. Most importantly, he has had success on strong teams, winning a National Championship last season.”
Campbell was a teammate of forward Tanner Froese with St. Norbert’s, another Steelheads’ rookie addition this off-season. Campbell is the fourth defenseman announced for the 2018-19 campaign.
