Boise, ID (5/9/18)— The Idaho Steelheads have announced their total charitable contributions for the 2017-18 season. The team contributed $112,073 this season in cash donations, tickets and suites, merchandise, and other services.
Three jersey auctions held by the Steelheads this season accounted for a significant portion of the contributions, with the specialty jerseys worn by the players and sold to the fans bringing in $56,529 for charity. Two of the auctions benefited St. Luke’s, with St. Luke’s Children’s collecting $15,443 and the “Pink in the Rink” auction providing $21,376 for St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute. The Jayden DeLuca Foundation Jersey Auction raised $19,710.
The Teddy Bear Toss for Tots, sponsored by the US Marine Corps and the Idaho Steelheads Booster Club, also collected $4,017 in cash and 7,023 toys to set a new Steelheads record for the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program.
The Steelheads continued their partnership with local youth hockey, donating $13,440 back to Idaho IceWorld and the Junior Steelheads as part of the youth hockey fundraiser.
The team contributed over $38,000 to various schools, churches, youth sports leagues, and charitable foundations in the form of tickets and suites. In addition to dollars donated, Steelheads players visited eleven schools this season to teach students about hockey.
“Wins and losses are important, but the most important job for our players and our organization is to be a part of our community and to make a positive impact,” said Steelheads President Eric Trapp. “We are grateful to have an opportunity every year to help so many causes in every corner of the Treasure Valley, and that our fans trust us to be significant partners in making a difference.”
