Boise, ID (3/13/18) – The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Idaho Steelheads rookie goaltender Tomas Sholl has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of March 5th-11th.
Sholl made his first two appearances as a Steelhead last week at CenturyLink Arena, going 1-0-1 with a shootout loss to the Allen Americans and an overtime victory over the Kansas City Mavericks. The 23 year-old Sholl posted a 1.39 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage across the two contests, including a 31-save effort on Saturday to earn his first win as a Steelhead.
The Hermosa Beach, California native was acquired by the Steelheads on February 28th after spending the first month of his ECHL career with the Adirondack Thunder. Sholl remains unbeaten in regulation during his ECHL career with a record of 6-0-2 to go with a 1.89 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage.
Sholl started the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League, appearing in 20 games between the Macon Mayhem and Evansville Thunderbolts and posting a record of 14-3-3 with a 2.52 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and a shutout.
Prior to turning pro, Sholl played three years of NCAA Division I hockey at Bowling Green State University. Sholl was 7-10-0 at Bowling Green with two shutouts, a 3.93 goals-against average, and an .891 save percentage. He was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2016.
Sholl is the first Steelheads goaltender to earn the weekly honor since Jack Campbell, who was recognized twice during the 2015-16 season.
The Steelheads open a three-game east coast road trip on Tuesday night at Infinite Energy Arena when they face the Atlanta Gladiators. Puck-drop is scheduled for 5:05pm MT, with the game available on 1350AM KTIK and on ECHLTV.
