Scott Burt's #12 in its rightful place

This past Saturday, the Steelheads' wall of retired numbers lit up once again as Scott Burt’s number 12 was raised to its rightful place at CenturyLink Arena. The fan-favorite was a key member of two Kelly Cup winning teams for the Steelheads. The former assistant captain earned a total of 111 goals and 250 points during his time as a player. Needless to say, he has earned the great honor of being the fourth Steelhead player to have his number retired.

Burt played for a few different teams in the ECHL and the WCHL but has always considered Idaho home. In past statements, Burt has said, “Boise and the Steelheads have been a huge part of my hockey career and life, I have made a ton of friends and always look forward to coming back there.”

You can only imagine his reaction when he was told the team so close to his heart wanted to honor him by retiring his number.

“I honestly went numb,” said Burt of the moment Steelheads President Eric Trapp called to break the news.

Scott then called his wife and the only words he could say were, “Wow, the Steelheads want to retire my jersey.”

When the ceremony took place during the first intermission of Saturday night’s game, Burt and his family took the ice. “It was good to be back on the ice and see some of the fans that have been supporting the Steelheads since I have played with them.”

Mentioning the other three Steelheads to receive the honor- #22 Cal Ingraham, #4 Jeremy Mylymok, and #16 Marty Flichel- Burt said, “To be honest, those are three great players, great on the ice and great off the ice. I am humbled to join those guys on the wall. To go up against those guys and always come back to Boise and see number 12 on the wall is special.”

For many, this achievement would be attributed to one’s own hard work and dedication. Burt attributed a lot of his success as a Steelhead player to his teammates.

“I wouldn’t be here without those guys,” said Burt.

Speaking to his time as a player, Burt said the memories he thinks about most when reminiscing on his time as a Steelhead were the championship seasons. These are memories that all Steelheads fans love as well.

Seeing Burt’s number 12 raised to the wall at CenturyLink Arena was unforgettable for the Steelheads and their fans as well, especially for Burt who will now forever hold a spot in the city of Boise.
