Steelheads to honor Scott Burt, retire number 12

Boise, ID (1/10/18) – The Steelheads will honor the career of one of the franchise’s all-time greats on February 3rd when Scott Burt’s number 12 becomes the fourth jersey retired in Steelheads history.

Burt will be honored during the first intermission of the Steelheads’ game against the Utah Grizzlies in a ceremony that will include the raising of his #12 banner to join those of #22 Cal Ingraham, #4 Jeremy Mylymok, and #16 Marty Flichel.

“Having your jersey retired means the most as a hockey player. All the hard work and dedication has paid off with this achievement and recognition,” said Burt. “Being able to join the other three players on the wall is an honor, and what they have done in their careers means a ton.”

Burt served as an assistant captain and co-captain during a seven-year tenure that spanned both the WCHL and ECHL eras in Boise. From 2000 to 2007, Burt helped bring two Kelly Cup championships to Idaho and played in 403 regular-season games, second all-time. Burt also ranks third in Steelheads history in goals (111) and points (250).

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Scott back and honor him on this special occasion,” said Steelheads President Eric Trapp. “Scott is responsible for some of the greatest moments in the history of our organization, and it’s wonderful that we can bring him back so that we and our fans can thank him properly.”

Burt was honored last spring as a member of the Steelheads’ 20th Anniversary All-Time Team. He is currently the assistant coach of the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs.

“If I didn’t play with great teammates, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s because of them that I had success.”

His jersey will be the first retired by the Steelheads since Flichel’s jersey retirement ceremony in January of 2015.

“Boise and the Steelheads are a huge part of my hockey career and life,” said Burt. “I’ve made a ton of friends and always look forward coming back here. This honor means so much to me and my family and I’m speechless.”
