Boise, ID (10/9/17) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced several roster moves on Monday. Defenseman Chris Martenet arrived in Boise after he was reassigned to the Steelheads on Sunday from the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars by the Dallas Stars. The Steelheads also reduced their training camp roster by four players.
Martenet, 21, is readying for his first full professional season. A fourth-round pick (103rd overall) of the Dallas Stars in 2015, Martenet played three games with AHL Texas to finish the 2016-17 campaign, after having played 55 games in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights and Ottawa 67’s. The Indianapolis, Indiana native scored five goals and collected 16 points in the OHL last season, along with 60 penalty minutes.
In 186 career junior games with London and Ottawa over the last three seasons, the 6-foot-7 defenseman totaled 15 goals, 44 points, 194 penalty minutes, and a plus-60 rating.
Martenet won an OHL Championship and a Memorial Cup with London in 2016. In 2013-14, he was a member of the Indiana Ice of the USHL, where he won the Clark Cup.
The Steelheads released four players from the training camp roster. Forward Dan Tedesco and goaltender Chris Truehl were released from their ECHL contracts. Forward Christian Horn and defenseman Riley Sweeney were released from tryout agreements.
Martenet becomes the eighth defenseman on the roster, and the sixth rookie.
