Boise, ID (10/4/17) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham confirmed today that rookie forward Justin Parizek has arrived in Boise after agreeing to terms on ECHL contract on Tuesday. Parizek will join Steelheads training camp for his first practice today.
Parizek, 25, prepares for his first pro season after playing four years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Lakeville, MN native recorded 12 goals and 20 points last season while serving as captain at Omaha and earned recognition from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.
In 133 college games, Parizek totaled 34 goals and 75 points for the Mavericks.
“Justin is a big body that has a heavy, accurate shot and plays a fast game,” said Graham.
The 6-foot-1 forward attended training camp with the American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins prior to joining the Steelheads this week. Parizek also attended development camp with the Vancouver Canucks in July, his second year attending the camp for the Canucks.
“He’s going to fit in very well with our forward group,” added Graham. “We’re very pleased with the acquisition.”
Prior to playing in college, Parizek played parts of two seasons in the NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings, netting 25 goals and 67 points in 93 games from 2011 to 2013. He also spent part of the 2011-12 season in the BCHL with the Langley Rivermen, posting a goal and four points in 17 games.
The Steelheads now have 13 forwards listed on their training camp roster, and 20 skaters overall.
The Steelheads will practice Wednesday morning from 10am until noon. They will be on the ice again Wednesday evening at 5pm for an intra-squad scrimmage, which will be open to the public.
