Boise, ID (10/6/17) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Friday that goaltender Philippe Desrosiers has joined the team in Idaho for training camp. Desrosiers was assigned to Idaho from AHL Texas by the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
Desrosiers, 22, will begin his third professional season with the Steelheads. A second-round pick (54th overall) of the Dallas Stars in 2013, Desrosiers has spent time in Idaho each of the past two seasons, spending last year split between Texas, Idaho, and the Norfolk Admirals. In Idaho, Desrosiers was 5-3-2 last season in 13 appearances, with a 3.81 goals against average and an .893 save percentage. Overall, Desrosiers was 13-14-2 last season in the ECHL with Idaho and Norfolk.
In 44 career appearances with Idaho, the St. Hyacinthe, Quebec native is 20-10-8 with a .906 save percentage. In the AHL with Texas, Desrosiers has made 18 appearances in two seasons, sporting an 8-7-0 record and a .906 save percentage.
Desrosiers holds the Steelheads’ ECHL record for the longest unbeaten streak by a goaltender, going 12-0-4 from 12/13/15 to 4/8/16 during his rookie season.
Prior to turning pro, Desroisers played parts of four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Rimouski Oceanic. Desrosiers was named CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2015 when he won a QMJHL championship. He also won the Jaques Plante Award for the QMJHL’s best goals-against average. In 2013 Desrosiers was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team.
