After a strong rookie season, Tommy Thompson heads west for his first campaign in Idaho this October. Thompson broke into the league with Greenville last season and showed his knack for late game heroics, but the Steelheads expect even bigger number for him at CenturyLink Arena.
Let’s look closer at the numbers for Tommy:
4 – Tommy netted four overtime winners last season for the Swamp Rabbits, more than any other player in the ECHL. His first three overtime winners came in a span of four games for Greenville, from January 20th to January 26th.
7 – Thompson’s longest points streak of last season was a seven-game run from January 15th to February 1st. Over that stretch, Thompson scored six goals and racked up 11 points. He also had the only three-point outings of his career, grabbing two goals and an assist on January 20th against Atlanta and putting up a goal and two assists against Atlanta again on the road.
111 – Thompson launched 111 shots on net last season, third most among Greenville rookies and ninth-most overall on the team. With 16 goals, Thompson also had a shooting percentage of 14.4 percent, the third-highest on the team, meaning Idaho will want to generate more scoring chances for Thompson this season.
44 – Thompson was an offensive leader during the second half of his tenure at St. Lawrence University. He had eight goals and 13 points over his first two seasons in 67 games, but in his junior and senior seasons put up 18 goals and 44 points in 74 games. He was third in scoring for the Saints in 2014-15 and tied for fourth the following season.
3 – Playing in Greenville, Thompson had limited opportunities last season against the West. Still, Thompson did collect two goals and an assist last year against teams that will play in the Western Conference this season.
5 – We’ve already covered Thompson’s OT prowess. But of his other 12 goals, five of them came in the third period.
