Corbin Baldwin returning for third season in Idaho

Boise, ID (8/8/17) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Tuesday that the Steelheads have agreed to terms on an ECHL contract  with defenseman Corbin Baldwin, bringing the top-pair blue-liner back to Idaho for a third season.

Baldwin, 26, has had the responsibility of shutting down the opposition’s top talent for much of his two years in Boise. Through 144 regular season games, Baldwin has done just that with a plus-38 rating, the highest of any Steelheads player in that time and currently the fourth-best rating of any Steelheads player in the ECHL era. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has also been on the top defense pairing for a Steelheads penalty killing unit that has ranked second in the league for each of his two seasons in Idaho.

Last season, Baldwin collected two goals, 13 points, and 130 penalty minutes in 72 games, while also appearing in all five of Idaho’s playoff games.

“Corbin is a top defender in our league and is well-respected in our room for his hard-nosed play and his ability to shut down other teams’ top lines,” said Graham.

Logging top minutes, the 6-foot-5 defender has collected five goals and 33 points while not missing a regular season game in Idaho, playing in all 72 contests in each of his past two seasons and only missing six games due to injury during the 2016 playoffs. Baldwin is just the second player in Steelheads history, and the first since Dan Shermerhorn (2000-02), to appear in every Steelheads game in consecutive seasons.

On February 8th, Baldwin played in his 300th professional games against the Wheeling Nailers.

“He has been and will continue to be a big presence on our back end, and we’re looking forward to having him back in a Steelheads uniform,” said Graham.

Baldwin has played 324 professional games split between the Steelheads, Alaska Aces, and Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL, the Houston Aeros/Iowa Wild in the AHL, and the Allen Americans and Quad City Mallards (at that time in the Central Hockey League). Baldwin has scored nine goals and collected 58 points, 478 penalty minutes, and a plus-25 rating in his career.

Baldwin played 248 games of junior hockey from 2008 to 2012, spending four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs and registering 11 goals, 66 points, 379 penalty minutes, and a plus-57 rating.
