Steelheads agree to terms with forward Brady Brassart

Boise, ID (7/19/17) – Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Wednesday that the Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with forward Brady Brassart on an ECHL contract for the 2017-18 season.

Brassart, 24, is entering his fourth pro season after three years as a prospect of the Minnesota Wild. The North Vancouver, BC native has played 213 professional games, spending the entire 2016-17 season in the ECHL with the Quad City Mallards and splitting time the prior two seasons between Quad City and AHL Iowa.

The 6-foot-1 Brassart put up his best offensive season last year with 14 goals and 43 points in 65 games with Quad City, along with 81 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. Brassart also earned five assists in five playoff games. He finished the season with 12 points (4-8-12) over the final 14 games of the season.

In 93 ECHL games over the past two seasons with the Mallards, Brassart has totaled 20 goals and 60 points.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play in Idaho,” said Brassart. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization and the city, and I look forward to a successful season.”

Brassart signed an NHL contract with the Minnesota Wild in March of 2014 and joined AHL Iowa at the end of the 2013-14 season, following five seasons in the Western Hockey League. Brassart played the final nine games of the 2013-14 campaign in Iowa, as well as the entire 2014-15 season. In 120 AHL contests, Brassart scored 13 goals and earned 29 points.

“We’re excited to announce the addition of Brady,” said Graham. “He’s a solid two-way centerman who is going to be used in every situation. He’s eager to get going, and he’s going to be a key contributor this season.”

In the WHL, Brassart played his first two seasons with the Spokane Chiefs and his final three with the Calgary Hitmen, totaling 112 goals, 269 points, and 373 penalty minutes in 323 junior games, as well as 13 goals and 23 points in 44 playoff games. He was a WHL All-Star during the 2012-13 season in the Subway Super Series.
