SteelStats: Jefferson Dahl

It was a career year for Jefferson Dahl in 2016-17, as he led Idaho in scoring with 66 points and ranked second on the team with 22 goals. In his third season in Boise and first as Steelheads’ captain, Jefferson Dahl was named by the fan base to the 20th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Let’s take a deeper look at the numbers for the Captain in 2017:

38 – Since Dahl made his Steelheads debut on January 2nd, 2015, the Steelheads have won 38 regular-season games in which he has scored a goal. The Steelheads were 12-5-3 last season in games in which Dahl scored. The Steelheads were 14-2-5 during the 2015-16 season when Dahl found the back of the net, and 12-1-0 when he tallied in his 2014-15 rookie campaign.

5 – Dahl ranked second on the Steelheads with five game-winning goals last season, trailing only Anthony Luciani’s eight. Of those goals, three broke tie scores in the third period. His game-winning goal against the Missouri Mavericks in the third period of a 5-4 win on February 25th completed a three-goal recovery for Idaho’s steepest comeback win of the season.

10 – Dahl carried the Idaho offense in the early weeks of the season with the longest points streak of his pro career, recording points in ten consecutive games from October 21st, the third game of the season, to November 11th. In that span Dahl recorded four goals and 15 points, while the Steelheads went 6-3-1.

57 – Jefferson Dahl has scored 57 regular-season goals in a Steelheads uniform, tied with linemate Rob Linsmayer and Steelheads’ great Scott Burt for fourth on the Steelheads’ all-time ECHL list. Dahl and Linsmayer are both 26 goals behind Lance Galbraith for the third spot.

20 – Dahl is 20 games shy of 200 for his Steelheads career. Only ten players in the 20-year history of the Steelheads have played in 200 or more games, a club most recently joined by Rob Linsmayer on the final day of the regular season.

20 – The Alaska Aces are gone from the ECHL and Jefferson Dahl will certainly miss them. In 29 career games against the Aces, Dahl scored nine goals and added 11 assists. That includes a goal in the final game of the season and the final game of the Steelheads-Aces rivalry on April 8th at Sullivan Arena.

16 – In 2015-16 Dahl led the team with ten power play goals. Linemate Will Merchant led the way this year, but not without significant help from Dahl. The Captain’s 16 power play assists ranked second on the team, one behind Joe Faust, and his 22 power play points were tied for second on the team with Faust behind Merchant’s 23. One-third of Dahl’s production last season came with the man-advantage, as well as 31.5 percent of his points throughout his career.
