Bryce Van Brabant joins Steelheads

Boise, ID (2/9/17) –Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced on Thursday that forward Bryce Van Brabant has joined the Steelheads in Idaho and will be available for this weekend’s games against the Wheeling Nailers. Van Brabant was released from his professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars on Tuesday.

Van Brabant, 25, brings more NHL experience to the Steelheads lineup. The Morinville, Alberta native appeared in six games with the Calgary Flames in 2014 following a three-year college career at Quinnipiac University.

The 6-foot-3 forward signed an ECHL contract with the Steelheads during the summer, but earned a PTO with the Stars while attending their training camp at the beginning of the season. Van Brabant has played 21 games for the Stars this season, scoring a goal and adding an assist. In his three professional seasons, the Morinville, Alberta native has played 135 AHL games for the Adirondack Flames, Stockton Heat, and the Stars. He has collected 17 goals and 34 points in that time, along with 146 minutes in penalties.

Van Brabant played 115 college games at Quinnipiac prior to signing an NHL contract with the Flames. He scored 24 goals and earned 42 points as a Bobcat.
