Travis Walsh named alternate captain at 2017 ECHL All-Star Classic

Boise, ID (1/17/17) –The ECHL announced changes to the ECHL All-Star team roster on Tuesday morning, adding five new players ahead of Wednesday night’s CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic, presented by I Love NY, in Glens Falls. In addition to the new members of the roster, the ECHL has also announced that Steelheads defenseman Travis Walsh has been named an alternate captain for the All-Stars and has been elevated to the starting lineup.

Walsh will replace Toledo's Jacob MacDonald on the back end in the starting lineup.

Walsh was named to the ECHL All-Star team when the roster was first unveiled on January 3rd. The rookie defenseman has appeared in 37 games for the Steelheads this season, scoring six goals and adding ten assists with a plus-9 rating. Walsh notched a goal and an assist on Monday afternoon against the Grizzlies in Idaho’s final game before the break.

The 23-year old blue-liner will also represent the Steelheads in the Hardest Shot contest in the Great Meadow Federal Credit Union Skills Competition.

Added to the All-Star roster as forwards are Elmira’s Sam Povorozniouk, Kalamazoo’s Tanner Sorenson and Brampton’s David Vallorani, while added as defensemen are Norfolk’s Aaron Harstad and Nolan Zajac.

The 2017 CCM / ECHL All-Star Classic presented by I LOVE NY will feature the host Adirondack Thunder taking on the ECHL All-Stars in a non-traditional format featuring 5-on-5, 4-on-4, and 3-on-3 play, as well as a Skills Competition (Puck Relay, Hardest Shot, Fastest Skater) to highlight the talents of both teams. The All-Star Team is comprised of the League’s top talent and prospects, showcasing the future stars of hockey as they develop in the ECHL. The game will air LIVE exclusively on NHL Network on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.
