Boise, ID (12/6/16)— The Idaho Steelheads have announced the total donations from their 19th annual Teddy Bear Toss for Tots on December 3rd, setting new records for the second consecutive season in both dollars and toys collected.
The Teddy Bear Toss for Tots, sponsored by the Steelheads Booster Club and the United States Marine Corps, collected 5,844 stuffed toys for the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, shattering last year’s record total of 3,086. The event also brought in $4,411.25 in cash, another all-time high that was largely pushed by stuffed animal sales within the arena by the Steelheads Booster Club.
“Once again, our fans have raised the bar for this wonderful event,” said Steelheads President Eric Trapp. “We were very proud last season when the fans helped us set new records for this program, but this year’s support was far greater. There are going to be many smiling children this Christmas season thanks to our fans, the Steelheads Booster Club, and the men and women of the Marine Corps.”
Kellan Lain scored the ‘Teddy Bear Goal” on Saturday night, a power play deflection early in the second period that tied the game 1-1. Idaho would win the contest in a shootout, a 3-2 victory over the Alaska Aces.
