Boise, ID (12/16/16) –Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced Friday that defenseman Eric Springer has joined the team in Boise. Springer was claimed off waivers from the Utah Grizzlies on Tuesday afternoon.
Springer, 27, played three games this season with the Utah Grizzlies. The Wrightstown, Wisconsin native is in his fifth professional season, all spent in the ECHL, with stops in Ontario, Gwinnett (now Atlanta), Wichita, and Utah. In 169 games, Springer has totaled five goals, 46 points, and 112 penalty minutes.
“Eric is a hard-working defenseman,” said Graham “He brings experience and a high compete level to the lineup every night.”
Springer played four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he was a teammate of current Steelheads Jefferson Dahl and Joe Faust. As a Badger, Springer played 84 games between 2008 and 2012, notching two goals, ten points, and 66 penalty minutes.
