Boise, ID (6/14/16) –Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced the completion of a trade on Tuesday morning with the Quad City Mallards. The Steelheads acquired the rights to forward Kellan Lain at last season’s trade deadline, on March 10th, for future considerations. Today the Steelheads completed that deal by sending defenseman Andrew Panzarella to the Mallards.
Lain, 26, played 16 games last season in the American Hockey League with the Iowa Wild and the Utica Comets, recording two goals and three points. Lain has played 104 AHL games in parts of four seasons with the Wild, Comets, Oklahoma City Barons, and Chicago Wolves, scoring nine goals and 23 points.
The Oakville, Ontario native brings NHL experience, suiting up for nine games with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2013-14 season. Lain had a goal and 21 penalty minutes with the Canucks.
Lain played three seasons at Lake Superior State University from 2010-13. He spent two of those seasons as a teammate of 2015-16 Steelheads forward Kyle Jean.
Panzarella, 26, played 35 games in his rookie season in Idaho, earning a goal and eight points to go with 53 penalty minutes.
The Steelheads completed another trade earlier this week, dealing forward Radoslav Illo to the Missouri Mavericks to finalize last season’s deal on Decmber 29th that brought in forward Torin Snydeman.
