Boise, ID (2/29/16)— The Idaho Steelheads will host their annual “Pink in the Rink” Jersey Auction, sponsored by St. Luke’s, on Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March, 5th, when the Steelheads host the Alaska Aces at CenturyLink Arena.
The Steelheads will wear custom-made jerseys during both weekend contests. Fans can bid on those jerseys in a silent auction during both games, with auction sheets stationed on the arena concourse behind Section 113. Bidding will close at the end of the second period on Saturday night, and winners will receive their jersey from the player at the end of the game.
All of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute to support cancer research. Last year, the Steelheads were able to donate just over $23,800.
This year’s jersey was designed by Steelheads’ Account Executive Erik Diehl. Diehl enjoys doing design work in his spare time, and this is his first jersey design for the Steelheads.
“We were looking to do something a bit more artistic than what we had done in the past, something that popped,” said Diehl. “We created something that we think fans are really going to enjoy that also draws from some past Steelheads logos and designs.”
This is the Steelheads’ third specialty jersey auction this season, with the team raising just under $30,000 in the first two events. The Steelheads have held jersey auctions for fans since 1998, donating over $500,000 to various charities during that time. The “Pink in the Rink” auction is always a fan-favorite, earning over $53,000 the past three seasons.
“The ‘Pink in the Rink’ Jersey Auction is always a huge hit with Steelheads fans,” said Steelheads President Eric Trapp. “We are proud of Erik’s sharp design for this year’s jerseys, and we know Steelheads fans will love it, too.”
