Boise, ID (9/4/2015) – Team President Eric Trapp announced Friday that the Idaho Steelheads have hired Brian McCormack to be the team’s new Director of Media/Community Relations and broadcaster.
He’ll be the new “Voice of the Steelheads” on KTIK 1350 AM, CableOne and ECHL TV.
The 26-year-old McCormack is a native of Long Island, New York, and a graduate of SUNY-Geneseo with a double-major in Communication and Political Science. He spent the past three seasons in the broadcast booth for Geneseo, an NCAA Division III program in New York. During his time, he was part of Frozen Frontier Weekend in Rochester, NY, and also broadcasted from the Division III “Frozen Four” in 2014.
McCormack replaces Will Hoenike, who has accepted a position with the United Dairymen of Idaho.
“When we did our homework on Brian, the term ‘work ethic’ kept coming up,” Trapp said. “We have a great history of broadcasters here and one trait that they share is a great work ethic. We’re excited for Brian to get here and become a big part of our family.”
McCormack, a self-proclaimed “stay-at-home defenseman,” played junior hockey growing up in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League before focusing on academics and broadcasting in college.
“We wish Will all the best in his new endeavors and he’ll always be a part of the Steelheads,” Trapp continued. “He was part of the process that helped us select Brian and we have all the confidence in the world that our fans are going to love listening to him.”
The Steelheads open the regular season on Friday, October 16, at home against the Rapid City Rush. It is the first of 36 home games, each of which will be played at CenturyLink Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting as low as $275 per seat for all 36 home games. Partial-season packages are also available.
