Boise, ID (1/6/15) – The Idaho Steelheads, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced Tuesday that goaltender Olivier Roy has been named the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week award for Dec. 29 – Jan. 4.
It’s the fourth time in his career that Roy has won the weekly award, but first time with the Steelheads. Roy was also the ECHL Goaltender of the Month in October.
The 23-year-old posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend on the road in Colorado, stopping 29 shots in a 6-0 win on Friday and following it up with a 23-save effort in a 1-0 win on Saturday. It marked the first time Colorado had ever been shut out in back-to-back games and Idaho’s first back-to-back blankings since Steve Silverthorn shut out Las Vegas and Alaska in successive games during the 2007 ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs.
Roy currently leads the ECHL in wins (17) and is tied for the league’s lead in shutouts (3) with Danny Battochio of Rapid City. He also ranks in the league’s top-five in goals-against average (2.31)
