The 2008 Montreal Canadiens' 3rd round NHL draft pick, Steve Quailer, is skating with the Steelheads for his first season. Steve is no rookie to the professional leagues of hockey! He spent the pasttwo seasons in the American Hockey League, the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America, playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs, as well as the Manchester Monarchs. Currently with the Steelheads he has posted 4 goals and 9 assists, totaling 13 points.

How did you get into hockey?I was two, and my Mom got me little skates and I started ripping around on those. That’s how it started!

What is your favorite thing to do off the ice?Snowboard!

What is a day in the life of Steve Quailer consist of?Hockey, sleep and food! That’s about it, and a little fun time in the middle.

What is something many people don’t know about you?I don’t know. That’s a real tough one. I guess my real last name is different. It’s Italian. I can’t spell it there are js and gs everywhere.

What was your favorite thing about playing for Northeastern (NCAA college hockey)?I think we had a really good fan base. I think we were the number one team there, so that was fun.

What was the NHL draft experience like for you?I was actually camping. I got back from camping and I had a voice message on my phone that I got drafted so that was pretty exciting.

As of now what is your favorite hockey memory?Going to the tournament (NCAA tournament) my freshman year. We played Cornell. We should have beaten them, but we didn’t.

Did you know you have a Wikipedia page?No. *while laughing*

What is the craziest thing a fan has done to get your attention?I don’t know, there are some crazy ones back in Hamilton. The old guys will wait for hours after a game.

What do you love most about playing for the Steelheads?I love the team. They are a bunch of good guys and we have a lot of fun.
