Former captain of Colorado College, Eamonn McDermott, is skating with the Steelheads for his first full season. Eamonn played a total of seven games last season, where he picked up 9 points, after concluding his college career. This year he returned for his first professional training camp and Opening Night. A hard working defensemen, the last one off the ice during practice, Eamonn was able to share a few minutes of his time to learn who he is on and off the ice.

How did you get into hockey?My mom was a speed skater; she took my little brother and me up to skate when we were younger.

As of now what is your favorite hockey memory?I would say freshman year at Colorado College going to the NCAA tournament.

What is your favorite NHL team and why?Growing up I liked New Jersey- they had a lot of really good defensemen

What is your favorite thing to do off the ice?I like to play golf.

What is a fact that not many people know about you?My name is Irish for Edward, Which is named after my Grandfather.

You already had some experience with the team from last season, how does it feel to be a part of it from training camp this year?It is a little different you kind of get into it right away versus college you have a month to ease your way into it. It’s nice to see some similar faces from last year.

What is the experience in camp? How are the practices? Are you working harder than last season?They are a little longer, this early in the year, and last year at the end. They have the same intensity, and a lot of good players out there.

Do you think your think your experience in the NCAA helped you get to this level?Definitely. Yeah, it was a great four years at Colorado Collage.

What do you like most abut playing for the Steelheads?Just the opportunity to play professional hockey is a great thing!
