Steelheads add Cohen to defense corps

Boise, ID (12/17/13) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Tuesday that the Idaho Steelheads have signed defenseman Jason Cohen after acquiring his rights off waivers from the Alaska Aces.

Cohen is in his first full professional season out of Wisconsin-Stout (NCAA Division III). He made his professional debut late last season, appearing in ten games for the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears, before opening this season with Louisiana of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In 15 games with the IceGators, Cohen picked up 17 points (seven goals, ten assists) before being recalled by Alaska. In four games with the Aces, he had four penalty minutes but did not register a point. The 25-year-old blue-liner played one game last week against Idaho with Alaska.

With Cohen, Ralph has seven active defensemen on his current roster: Cohen, Patrick Cullity, James Isaacs, Etienne Boutet, Damon Kipp, Tyler Elbrecht and Dalton Reum.

Idaho’s longest homestand of the season, an eleven-gamer, wraps up with three games this week against the Bakersfield Condors. The teams meet on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at CenturyLink Arena in Boise. Wednesday and Friday’s games begin at 7:10 PM with Sunday’s game starting at 5:10.

Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise. Ticket prices are discounted and you can get a Pepsi, Double-R Ranch Hot Dog, and bag of Tim’s Cascade Chips with each ticket. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 for more information.
