Boise, ID (12/28/13) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Saturday that forward Austin Fyten has been recalled from the Idaho Steelheads by Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League. In a separate transaction, defenseman Charlie Dodero has been assigned to Idaho by Hartford of the AHL.
The AHL is the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America.
Dodero (pronounced doe-DARE-oh) is in his first professional season after spending his major-junior career in the Ontario Hockey League. The 21-year-old served as the alternate captain for the Sudbury Wolves last season, leading all of the team’s defensemen in goals and assists. He started the season with the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors, appearing in 14 games with two points (both assists) and 22 penalty minutes.
The Illinois native is expected to be in uniform Saturday night when Idaho takes on the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Puck drop is 8:05 (Mtn) and can be heard live on KTIK (1350 AM or www.ktik.com).
Fyten will not be in uniform following an impressive eight-game stretch with Idaho that saw him net five goals and add five assists including his first professional hat trick against Stockton on December 6. He has appeared in 12 games at the AHL level this season with Oklahoma City, picking up three assists along the way. The 22-year-old Alberta native was an ECHL All-Star last season with Idaho after gathering 41 points in 46 games as a rookie.
