Boise, ID (12/19/13) – Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Thursday that forward Anthony Nigro has been called up by Texas of the American Hockey League.
The AHL is the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America. Nigro joins Texas on a professional tryout contract (PTO) since he is on an ECHL-level contract with Idaho. Nigro is the fourth player who has skated for Idaho this season to be added to Texas’s current roster along with forward Taylor Vause and defensemen Hubert Labrie and Ryan Button.
The 23-year-old forward currently ranks second in the ECHL in points (31), goals (14) and is tops among all ECHL players with six power-play goals, earning ECHL Player of the Week award for the week of October 21 - 27. He’s no stranger to the AHL, though, having skated in 175 AHL games over the previous three seasons as a member of the Peoria Rivermen.
Idaho is at home Saturday and Sunday to close out the pre-Christmas portion of the team’s schedule, hosting the Bakersfield Condors. Saturday’s game begins at 7:10 PM while Sunday’s game starts at 5:10 PM.
