Fresh off a two goal night for the Steelheads that included the game-winning goal in overtime in the team?s home-opener on Wednesday, it is safe to that Idaho fans Idaho fans knew the name, Anthony Nigro.Nigro is from Vaughan, Ontario and was drafted by the Guelph Storm in the OHL in 2006. After four years in the OHL, Nigro joined the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL, and eventually joined the ECHL in 2013. Nigro is like many young Canadian hockey players in that he never played college hockey. Rather, he played in major junior leagues which allowed him to focus on honing his hockey skills. According to Nigro, that path is normal for many Canadians.?To me it was kind of normal,? stated Nigro. ?All of the guys that I grew up with for the most part took the major junior route. When you?re in the Toronto area hockey is a pretty big deal as it, so it was normal for guys to take that route?. Growing up in a hockey hotbed like Ontario, Nigro was able to begin playing consistent, competitive hockey at a young age. Now with the Steelheads, Nigro reciprocated some of the love that Boise showed him on Wednesday night.?I told my parents that it has got that small city feel where everyone knows everyone, but at the same time, it?s a little bigger,? explained Nigro. ?I know a ton of guys that have played here before, and that was the main reason why I wanted to come here?.Even though the regular season is now underway, the team has barely begun in getting to know one another. Nigro admitted that he still has some first names to learn, but some nights of bonding on the road should cure that in no time. Most importantly, however, is the commentary Nigro had on coming back from a goal down late in the 3rd period on Wednesday night to tie the game with under a minute to play. While all the momentum seemed to be shifting in the San Francisco Bulls' direction prior to the score, the Steelheads made sure to keep calm.?You got to keep your highs low, and your lows high. You can?t get too high when you?re up a goal, and when you can?t get too low when it?s the other way. You have just got to keep playing your game,? said Nigro.
