San Francisco, CA (3/27/13) - Tyler Gron coverted a neutral-zone loose puck into the game-winning goal less than a minute into overtime Wednesday night as the Idaho Steelheads bested the San Francisco Bulls, 1-0, at the Cow Palace. Tyler Beskorowany picked up his second shutout of the season, stopping all 27 shots he faced, in his first appearance with the Steelheads after being returned to Idaho from Texas of the American Hockey League. After a slow first period, the tempo picked up in the second period. Both goaltenders made big saves to keep the game scoreless through the second frame as well as the game was scoreless entering the third period. Each team had one brilliant scoring opportunity in the third period. First, it was Idaho on the doorstep as Rob Linsmayer was robbed at the top of the crease by San Francisco goaltender Travis Fullerton midway through the frame. Then, Beskorowany came up with two big saves back-to-back, first denying Kris Belan at the goal mouth and then scrambling back before Ian Schultz could tap home the rebound, as the game would complete all 60 minutes of regulation scoreless. In overtime, San Francisco cleared a puck to the neutral zone early on. Gron picked up the puck near the right wing, angled toward the net, and snapped a sharp wrist-shot over Fullerton's shoulder at the 53-second mark of overtime to give Idaho the 1-0, sudden-victory win. The goal was Gron's 20th of the season. Idaho has now won four times in overtime and improved its overall record to 44-19-7 (95 points). The 95 points Idaho has in the standings is the second-highest total for Idaho as an ECHL organization. The 2009-10 Steelheads had 103 points en route to the Kelly Cup finals. Idaho plays at San Francisco again Friday before wrapping up the regular season at Stockton on Saturday night. The ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs, presented by KeyBank, return to CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday and Thursday, April 3 and 4, to open a best-of-seven, first-round matchup against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
