Ferry agrees to ATO with Idaho

Boise, ID (3/13/13) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Wednesday that the team has agreed to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) deal with defenseman Steve Ferry.Ferry, 24, just completed his senior season at the University of Windsor in Canada. He was first-team All-Conference and also selected as the conference's Defenseman of the Year after putting up 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 28 games with Windsor. Both his total points and assists ranked in the top five on his team.Windsor is the same school that produced current Steelheads defenseman Scott Todd.Ferry also played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League where his teammates included NHL stars Steven Stamkos, Corey Perry and Dave Bolland. Another one of his junior-hockey teammates was Alaska Aces goaltender Gerald Coleman. Ferry's first professional game will be Wednesday night in Anchorage against Coleman and the Aces. Puck drop is at 9:15 (Mtn) and can be heard live on KTIK (1350 AM) in the Treasure Valley. Ferry will wear jersey no. 10 for the Steelheads.The team returns home next week for its final homestand of the regular season beginning on Wednesday, March 20, against the Ontario Reign.
