Smith reassigned to Idaho

Boise, ID (1/2/13) ? Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Wednesday morning that forward Austin Smith has been reassigned to the Idaho Steelheads from the Texas Stars by the Dallas Stars. Idaho (ECHL) and Texas (AHL) are the primary development affiliates of the NHL's Stars. This marks Smith's third stint with the Steelheads, where he leads the team in goals (16) in just 20 games at the ECHL level. He ranks in the league's top 20 in plus/minus rating (plus-12) as well. He has also skated in four games at the AHL level this season without registering a point. He led the nation in goals at the NCAA level last season at Colgate University, where he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's version of the Heisman Trophy. The Steelheads (20-7-4) are in action on the road Wednesday night at Bakersfield. Smith is expected to be in the team's lineup for the 8 PM game, which can be heard live in the Treasure Valley on KTIK (1350 AM). Idaho returns home on Friday, January 4, to host the Bakersfield Condors. Group nights are a great way to get family, friends, co-workers, and colleagues together at CenturyLink Arena at a discounted price. Groups can also include a Double-R Ranch hot dog, Tim's Cascade chips, and a small Pepsi. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com for more information.
