King rules Colorado in shootout victory

Loveland, CO (10/17/12) ? Forward Tristan King tied an ECHL-era team record with four goals Wednesday night as the Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles, 7-6, in a shootout at the Budweiser Events Center. King's goals tied a mark set by Mark Derlago in March 2011. Cal Ingraham holds the overall team record with five goals in one contest during the WCHL era. The 21-year-old netted two goals in the first eight minutes of play, both assisted by Adrian Foster, to give Idaho a quick 2-0 lead. But, with Idaho on the power play, the Steelheads lost control of the puck and Colorado made them pay with a short-handed goal from Jason Beatty to swing momentum. Jake Marto would tie the game for the Eagles on the power play at 15:17 of the first as the two teams headed to the first intermission tied at two. Reigning ECHL MVP Chad Costello would give Colorado the lead just two minutes into the second period but Idaho would tie it at three at the 10:38 mark of the second when Kael Mouillierat found Andrew Carroll all alone out front for his second of the season to even the score. Jack Combs scored on a scramble late in the second to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead going into the third. King would have the answer for Idaho, however. First, at 2:27 of the third, King picked up a loose puck and blistered a wrist shot over Adam Brown's shoulder for his third of the evening, tying the game at four. Then, at 5:28, King would give Idaho the lead when he was able to re-direct a Foster pass out of the air past Brown to give Idaho a 5-4 lead. Moullierat would give Idaho a two-goal lead at 10:29 of the period with his first of the season but the explosive Eagles came back with goals from Michael Forney and Combs to tie it and send it to overtime. In overtime, Tyler Beskorowany came up with eight big saves as Colorado sought to gain the second point, forcing the game to a shootout. Then, in the shootout, he stopped four of five Colorado shooters to give Idaho its first win under new Head Coach Brad Ralph. The win came on Ralph's 32nd birthday. Idaho (1-2) was 2-9 on the power play while Colorado (1-1-1) was 2-8 with the man advantage. The same two teams will meet again on Friday and Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. Gametime each night is 7:05 and can be heard live on KTIK (1350 AM).
