Ralph adds top-shelf talent to Idaho roster

Boise, ID (9/18/12) ? Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Tuesday that the ECHL?s Idaho Steelheads have agreed to terms with forward Andrew Carroll. Carroll, 27, has spent the better part of the past two seasons playing in the American Hockey League, the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America. He played in 68 games with the AHL?s Hershey Bears last season, collecting 138 penalty minutes along the way. The Shoreview, MN, product is a proven scorer at the ECHL level, having netted 30 goals in 61 games with Charlotte during the 2009-2010 season and adding another ten tallies in 17 games with Greenville early in the 2010-11 campaign. Carroll played his college hockey at Minnesota-Duluth, where he was a three-year team captain. He became the first sophomore in 56 years to be selected as a co-captain of the school?s hockey team during the 2006-2007 season. While at UMD, he was a teammate of former Steelheads Michael Gergen, Matt McKnight, and Bryan McGregor. Ralph on Carroll: ?Andrew is a tough player to play against. He?ll be one of the hardest-workers in the ECHL, he can make plays in all three zones, and he?ll be a good leader for our hockey team.? Training camp for the ECHL?s Steelheads opens on October 1 at CenturyLink Arena. The 16th season of professional hockey in Boise kicks off on Friday, October 12, when the Idaho Steelheads host the Utah Grizzlies at CenturyLink Arena.
