(Boise, ID) ? The Idaho Steelheads announced Saturday that reigning ECHL Broadcaster of the Year Doug Plagens is leaving his post of play-by-play broadcaster for the team to accept a television position in Ohio. Plagens will call his final Steelheads game Saturday night before moving on to a sports anchor/reporter position at WKBN-TV, the CBS affiliate in Youngstown, Ohio, not far from his home town of Detroit. He called over 200 games in two-plus seasons as the team?s play-by-play broadcaster, including last season?s Kelly Cup finals. He was part of the 2010 ECHL All Star Game broadcast and was voted by his peers as the league?s Broadcaster of the Year last season. Will Hoenike, the team?s current director of media and community relations, will take on Plagens? play-by-play duties. He has ten years of broadcast experience including play-by-play experience for Cable One, Boise State University, and IdahoSports.com. He will assume the mic following the All Star break when the team travels to Stockton to take on the Thunder. The Steelheads conclude a weekend set at Qwest Arena against the first-place Utah Grizzlies on Saturday night. Fans can ask for the KTIK Section and get tickets for just $13.50 apiece. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com for more information.
