(Washington, DC) - Former Idaho Steelheads forward Jay Beagle has signed a two-year contract with the NHL's Washington Capitals.The deal, announced last week, keeps Beagle with the organization for which he made his NHL debut (Feb. 11, 2009) and scored his first NHL goal (Nov. 23, 2009).The 24-year-old Beagle, a native of Calgary, Alberta, made his professional debut with the Steelheads in the spring of 2007. He wound up appearing in 26 games with Idaho between the regular season and playoffs as the Steelheads won the ECHL's Kelly Cup Championship. Beagle had 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in eight regular-season games and three points (1 G, 2 A) during the playoffs.Along with his Kelly Cup title ring, Beagle has also earned jewelry in the American Hockey League. His Hershey Bears have won AHL Calder Cup championships in 2009 and 2010.The Idaho Steelheads open the 2010-2011 season at home on October 15 when they host the Victoria Salmon Kings.
