Los Angeles, CA ? The Dallas Stars drafted five players in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft over the weekend. On Friday, the Stars took the top rated goalie in the NHL Draft, selecting Jack Campbell with the 11th overall pick in the first round. Campbell, 18, spent this past season with the U.S.- National Under-18 team (USHL), playing 11 games with a 6-3-1 record with a 2.21 GAA and a .917 save percentage. The Port Huron, MI native also represented the U.S. at the 2010 Under-20, and both the 2010 and 2009 Under-18 Championships, helping the U.S. win gold at all three tournaments. The 6-3, 175-pound goaltender posted a combined 11-2 record with five shutouts at the 2009 and 2010 World Under-18 Championships. Campbell was named the Goaltender of the Tournament in 2010. In the 2010 Under-20 Championship, he was called from the bench to replace the starting goaltender in the second period of the championship game against Canada and held on to defeat the Canadians on their home ice. He went 2-1-0 in the tournament with one shutout, a 2.54 GAA and a .923 save percentage. In 2008-09, Campbell posted a 14-6-1 record with a 2.21 GAA and a .917 save percentage with the U.S. ? National Under-18 team (NAHL). He is set to play for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) next season. Dallas selected defenseman Patrik Nemeth with their second round selection (41st overall). Nemeth is a 6-3, 201-pound blue-liner out of Stockholm, Sweden. Considered a solid defender, he has played the last two seasons for AIK Jr. in the Swedish Jr. League. Nemeth appeared in 38 games this past season, scoring one goal and 19 assists for 20 points. He is scheduled to play for the AIK team in the Swedish Elite League next season. Nemeth was ranked as the 11th best player among European players by NHL Central Scouting. Dallas drafted left wing Alex Guptill with the 77th overall pick in the third round, trading down to the spot with Colorado. The Stars entered Saturday without a fourth round pick and dealt their original third round pick (71st overall) to the Avalanche in exchange for the 77th and the 109th overall pick (fourth round). Guptill played in 29 games last season for Orangeville (CCHL), scoring 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points with 50 penalty minutes. He is described by Central Scouting as a 6-3, 175-pound forward with a lot of offensive skill. The Stars selected defenseman Alex Theriau with their fourth-round pick (109th overall). Theriau is a 6-2, 189-pound blue-liner who appeared in 70 games for the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL), scoring four goals and 20 assists for 24 points with 68 penalty minutes. Dallas selected defenseman John Klingberg with its fifth round pick (131st overall). Klingberg is a 6-0, 158-pound blue-liner from Sweden. He appeared in 27 games for Frolunda Jr., scoring five assists with 32 penalty minutes.
