It didn?t end the way the players, fans, or organization wanted, but the 2009-2010 Idaho Steelheads season will still go down as one of the best in team history. From Mathieu Tousignant chasing Stockton?s Louis Tremblay around the ice following a vicious kneeing penalty on October 17 to Brandan Kushniruk?s diving goal to beat Victoria in overtime on November 21 ? from Riley Weselowski?s one-punch knockout of Las Vegas?s Alex Bourret on January 23 to Rejean Beauchemin?s 36-save shutout against Victoria on March 24 ? From Mark Derlago?s 30-point March to Marty Flichel setting the team?s all-time scoring record, there is a lot to remember from this season. Among the highlights that haven?t already been mentioned: *Rookie forward Evan Barlow being named ECHL All Star MVP *Derlago setting single-season team records in goals, assists, and points *Derlago being named first-team All-ECHL *Head coach Derek Laxdal earning ECHL Coach of the Year honors *Barlow and goaltender Richard Bachman being named to the ECHL?s All-Rookie team *Winning the Brabham Cup for having the best record in the league *Winning the Taylor Cup for winning the National Conference championship *Eight sellouts, including seven after the all star break *Averaging 3,977 fans per game in the playoffs ? third-best in the ECHL There are almost countless more that could be listed one after the other. ?We didn?t win the ultimate prize, but we have no reason to hang our heads,? Laxdal said. ?The players and fans did an incredible job representing the city of Boise and the Idaho Steelheads organization.? Steelheads team president Eric Trapp concurred. ?The Steelheads faithful are amazing,? Trapp said. ?They are a huge part of why players want to play here, why this is one of the best places to play minor-league hockey in North America.? The focus now turns to the 2010-2011 season. ?We?re already working,? Trapp noted. ?We want next season to be even better.? The 2010-2011 schedule will be released soon by the ECHL league offices. Ticket plans are already available, though, including full-season packages starting at just $275 per seat for 36 home games. Contact the Idaho Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 and ask to speak to an account executive to find out how you can get on board for next season.
