?When are you guys bringing back Bonk?? Among the inquiries at the Qwest Arena information booth, perhaps no question has been asked more since the former Idaho Steelheads mascot retired to the McCall area before the 2005-2006 season. And, four years later, the organization finally has an answer. ?He wants to come back at the beginning of March,? team president Eric Trapp said. ?But he can?t do it without help from our fans.? During his years as the team mascot, Bonk spent many hours helping charities raise money to make the Treasure Valley an even better place to live. Before he can return to Qwest Arena, he wants to do it again. For Wednesday night?s home game versus the Bakersfield Condors on March 3, the Idaho Steelheads will offer fans an opportunity to purchase $15 tickets through a special ticketing link. Five dollars from each of the discounted tickets will be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Each ticket includes a hotdog, chips and soda - FREE. Once $1,000 has been raised for the MDA, Bonk will head back down Highway 55 to attend his first Steelheads game since the end of the 2004-2005 season. ?At $5 per ticket going to charity, that?s 200 tickets,? Trapp noted. ?If we sell at least 200, Bonk will come watch the team and we?ll be able to give a nice check to the MDA.? Bonk told team officials that he?s enjoying retired life, checking on the team via IdahoSteelheads.com and the B2 Network. He?s also anxious to meet Blue, who replaced Bonk as the team?s mascot in 2005. The Steelheads have donated approximately $25,000 back to the community this season in the way of jersey auctions and charitable community donations. The organization has worked with the MDA before, raising over $70,000 to help battle the debilitating disease.
