The Idaho Steelheads (29-11-2) defeated the Pacific Division leading Bakersfield Condors (26-13-3) for the second straight night, and extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 win at Bakersfield?s Rabobank Arena. Mark Derlago led the Steelheads? charge with two goals against his former team, as he now has points in eight straight games. Idaho struck first, just as they did in Friday night?s contest. With the Steelheads on the power play, Mark Derlago tipped home a Marty Flichel point shot at 17:05 of the opening frame; Dustin Friesen also earned an assist on Derlago?s 15th goal. The Steelheads put home another power play goal at 4:53 of the second period when Evan Barlow scored from an extremely sharp angle; he was nearly in the right wing corner. Kevin DeVergilio assisted on Barlow?s 21st of the season. Less than two minutes later, at 6:13, Shawn Weller scored his 18th goal of the season for Bakersfield to cut Idaho?s lead to 2-1. Bakersfield tied the game in the third period when Maxime Macenauer one-timed a puck by Bachman from the right wing circle at 4:13. At 15:26 of the third, Mark Derlago picked up a loose puck in the slot and backhanded it into the Condors? cage for his 16th of the season, and the goal would stand to be the game-winner. Evan Barlow and Kevin DeVergilio picked up the assists. Richard Bachman earned the victory as he stopped 25 of 27 Bakersfield shots; he is now 13-5-1. Timo Pielmeier suffers the loss; he stopped 24 of 27 shots, and is now 19-11-3. The Steelheads finish their weekend in California with tomorrow night?s outing against the Ontario Reign. The game gets underway at 6:00 PM MST. The Steelheads return home to take on the Utah Grizzlies on February 10th.
