The Idaho Steelheads (35-18-4) beat the Victoria Salmon Kings (31-23-6) 4-1 after a three-goal second period in front of 4,170 fans at Qwest Arena. Dan Welch led the way for Idaho with a pair of goals. Victoria opened the scoring once again, as Matt Kelly scored at 2:38 of the first frame, with assists going to Aaron Brocklehurst and Sean O?Connor on the power play. That would be all the scoring for the Salmon Kings, however. Dan Welch made it a 1-1 game heading into the second period, as he scored at 11:44 of the first period. The goal was his second of the season, assisted by Ben Nelson and Kyle Radke. Radke, not long after, would be involved in an incident in which Victoria?s Tim Wedderburn was pushed into the goal post behind Salmon Kings netminder Julien Ellis, which gave Radke a major penalty for interference and a game misconduct. He also served a fighting major, after Kelly dropped the gloves in defense of Wedderburn, who returned to action moments after the collision. In the second period, the Steelheads scored three goals between the 15:14 and 16:54 marks to secure the win. The first of the three goals came when Nelson tipped home a Marty Flichel point blast on the power play for Nelson?s 24th of the season; Mark Bomersback also earned an assist on the goal. Just over a minute later, the Steelheads made it 3-1 when Bryan McGregor scored his 23rd of the year; Garett Bembridge and Mark Bomersback tallied the assists. Dan Welch, just over 30 seconds later, scored his third of the season, assisted by Riley Weselowski and Sean Garrity. For Garrity, the helper was his first career point in his first career game. He was recently added to the Steelheads lineup after finishing a college career at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Matt Climie stopped 26 of 27 shots to improve to 21-10-1 in his first pro season. Julien Ellis suffered the loss, falling to 6-7-3. He stopped 29 of 33 Idaho shots. The Steelheads are back in action on Wednesday night in Utah for their 14th meeting of the season with the Grizzlies.
