Position Analysis 2009 | Quarterbacks

Leading up to the close of training camp, boiseburn.com will give you a closer look at the position-by-position breakdown of players who have been signed by the Burn and are expected to attend camp. Other players may be added at each position before the season opens March 28 at Tri-Cities. Preseason Position Analysis: Quarterbacks Signed**: 3 Returning: None New: Taylor Tharp, Rudy Carlton, Mark Thorson Taylor Tharp: Former Boise State standout will step under center in af2 for the first time in 2008. Tharp?s name dots the BSU single-season passing record book after a big 2007 which saw him crack BSU?s top-five in single-season passing yards, pass attempts, pass completions, touchdown passes, and total yards. Tharp signed as a free agent with the NFL?s Carolina Panthers in 2008 and also had workouts with multiple Arena Football teams prior to the league?s decision to close for the 2009 season. Rudy Carlton: The Azusa Pacific product has one year of af2 experience, playing last year for the Texas Copperheads. He started under center for Texas when they visited Boise last April, spending most of that night running for his life from a heavy Burn rush, finishing with 132 yards passing and a touchdown. He finished the season with 32 touchdown passes in eleven games for the Copperheads. Mark Thorson: Thorson, out of Western Oregon University, was signed by the Burn after excelling at the team?s open tryout in December. He was a three-year starter for the Division-II school, finishing his career with a record of 20-12 and school records for pass attempts, pass completions, passing touchdowns, and total touchdowns. ** Signed as of March 6
