The Idaho Steelheads (31-17-3) never led and saw their season-long five-game winning streak snap on Wednesday night, as the Utah Grizzlies (21-18-15) skated out of Qwest Arena with a 4-1 victory. 2,939 fans also witnessed Mark Bomersback?s eight-game scoring streak come to a close; the streak had been a Steelheads season-long. The Utah Grizzlies went into the first intermission with a lead; a feeling they never experienced in Tuesday night?s game. Mark Pavil redirected a Tyler Wooddisse point shot for the game?s first goal, as the Grizzlies went up 1-0 at 10:07 of the first period. Evan Kotsopoulos also earned an assist on the goal. In the second period, Utah went up 2-0 when Rob Hennigar took a pass from Tim Maxwell in front of the Steelheads net, and beat Idaho netminder Rejean Beauchemin at 9:45. Bryan McGregor?s 21st of the season was the first of the game for Idaho, cutting the Utah lead in half on the power play at 15:11 of the second frame. Kris Sparre and Matt Stephenson added assists on the goal. The Steelheads entered the third period trailing 2-1, and were unable to do any further damage against the Utah Grizzlies. Andy Sertich fired a puck from outside the Steelheads blue line, and an odd bounce off the boards handcuffed Beauchemin, as the puck found the back of the net; Utah then lead by a pair, 3-1, with less than five minutes to go in the game. Rob Hennigar added an empty-netter in the game?s final minute to secure the victory for Utah. The Steelheads record against Utah falls to 10-2-1 with the loss. Rejean Beauchemin (13-8-2) takes the loss for Idaho, as he stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Steelheads. Utah?s Mike Mole (13-15-11) stopped 29 of 30, earning the win. The Steelheads? next game is the first of a three-game-in-three-nights set in Stockton on Friday night.
