Former Division Rivals Headed to Boise

With camp a week-and-a-half away, Boise Burn Head Coach Brent Winter continues to improve his roster. The arenafootball2 league office today assigned veterans FB/LB Damian Walker and DB Roshawn Marshall to the Burn?s 2009 lineup. Walker, 6-3, 285-pounds, from Howard University will be entering his third year in the af2. In his first two years with the Burn?s National Conference West Division rival Central Valley, Walker ran the ball 72 times for 272 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also had 20 catches for 122 yards and 5 scores. Walker, who scored a TD against the Burn last year at Qwest Arena, says he?s ready for the move to Boise. ?I am excited about the opportunity to come play for Boise and Coach Winter.? He added, ?The Burn is a first class organization and I am ready to make a run at a championship.?Marshall, 5-10, 195 lbs., played college ball at Central Missouri State and comes to Boise from defending West Division Champion and af2 Cup runnerups Spokane Shock. In his rookie campaign, Marshall tallied 40.5 tackles, 6 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries, one of which was recovered for a TD. A key part in guiding Spokane to a 15-1 regular season, Marshall plans on making the same impression in Boise. ?I?m happy to have the chance to play in an exciting sports city and to play for Coach Winter and his staff. Coming from division rival Spokane, I?m very excited to bring that championship experience to the Boise Burn family. My words to the fans of Boise: Get your popcorn ready!?The Burn have also announced that previously assigned offensive lineman Shannon Boatman (Toronto) and kicker Kenny Byrd (Winnipeg) have signed contracts with the Canadian Football League and will not be with the team when camp opens up next week.Players report to camp on Mar. 7 and have their first practice on Sunday, Mar. 8 from 9am-Noon at Boise State University?s Caven-Williams Sport Complex. The 2009 regular season begins on Friday, Mar. 27 at Tri-Cities. The Burn will host its West Division rival and defending National Conference Champion Spokane Shock for its Home Opener on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Qwest Arena. Season tickets are currently on sale.
