In the rubber match between two National Conference West Division foes, the Boise Burn (7-6) kept their playoff hopes alive with their 52-34 victory over the Tri Cities Fever (4-9) In a back a forth 1st quarter, Boise got the scoring started just 2:48 seconds into the game. Royal Gill found Casey Allen for the 2 yard score and the early 6-0 lead (PAT no good). The Fever answered just 2:13 later when Tali Ena hit Phil Goodman for a 16 yard score and the 7-6 lead. Allen would give Boise the 12-7 lead on his second TD of the game, this time from 8 yards out. The Fever would regain the lead when Ena connected with LaMonte Jones on a 17 yard TD giving Tri-Cities the 14-12 lead after 1 quarter. Boise would outscore Tri Cities 13-7 in the second. The Fever took a 21-12 lead after a Brian Hernandez fumble. Ena and Goodman teamed up again. The 29 yard TD pass gave the Fever the 9 point lead. But Boise would answer with 26 unanswered points. Gill threw a 6 yard TD pass to Shadrach Okoebor with 8:10 left to go in the second, then Gill gave Boise the lead they would never lose on a 2 yard TD run giving Boise the 25-21 lead at half. Boise would take advantage of a couple Fever miscues in the 3rd to widen their lead to 17. The Burn would recover the second half kick off and turn it in to a Casey Allen TD. Following a Tali Ena fumble, Levi Madarieta (JLS Ironman of the Game) made a spectacular one handed catch and fought his way into the endzone for a 4 yard TD and the 38-21 lead. LaMonte Jones?s second TD (6 yards) of the game got Tri-Cities to within 10 at 38-28. Okoebor?s 10 yard TD run gave Boise the 45-28 lead heading into the 4th quarter. The momentum shifted in the Fever?s favor when they picked off Royal Gill in the end zone and one play later, Ena threw a 48 yard strike to Jones to cut the lead to a 11. at 45-34. Demond Williams 2nd INT of the game set up the final score of the night. Gill hit Allen (Schutt Offensive Player of the Game) for an 18 yard TD as the Burn improve to 7-6 with the 52-34 victory. Boise has a bye week and will return to action in two weeks when the Florida Firecats come to town on July 12th.
